Preparation for Transport
Ensure adequate analgesia, comfort and support to patient and family, allowing parental presence if possible
Establish and firmly secure at least 2 separate intravenous access routes. Extremity splints may be used to prevent accidental dislodgment
Place maintenance fluid and other infusions (sedatives, inotropes) on volumeteric pumps. Label all syringes and the lines. Ensure tight luer-lock connections and keep the site of IV line visible to enable prompt diagnosis of extravasation.
