Videolaryngoscopes 1

Videolarynoscopes are increasingly available outside of the operating room. Blades are available in all sizes for pediatric airway management.

Their role in pediatric trauma depends on provider preference and the anticipated difficulty of the intubation. A focused airway exam prior to RSI should alert the provider to the potential for a difficult intubation.

A videolaryngoscope should be available as back-up, even if direct laryngoscopy is planned, in case of a failed intubation.
