Preferred IV Access Sites

First choice:

  • Antecubital fossae or back of the hand
  • Saphenous vein on noninjured extremity
  • External jugular vein if cervical spine is clear

Second choice:

  • Intraosseous line in non-injured tibia

Third choice:

  • Percutaneous femoral vein cannulation (non-injured limb)
  • Saphenous vein cutdown
  • Internal jugular or subclavian vein cannulation
