- The younger the child, the thinner their skin and the larger body surface area/weight ratio, and the more limited physiologic reserves
- The degrees of burn depth are: 1st (preserved epidermis), 2nd (into dermis), 3rd (through dermis)
- Burn extent or burn total body surface area (TBSA) is the sum of 2nd and 3rd degree areas
- The child’s palm and fingers equals 1% of their TBSA
