Fluid Resuscitation for Burns

• Initial fluid resuscitation guideline (Parkland Formula):
  
• 50% of estimated volume should be given IV in the first 8 hours; then 50% in the next 16 hours (Lactated Ringers)
• Children also require free water in form of maintenance fluid infusion (by body weight) of D5 0.25%NS
• Monitor serum electrolytes and blood glucose
• Adequate perfusion is goal (urine output >1 ml/kg/hr)
