- Pre-determined doses of anesthesia and neuromuscular blocking drugs are administered in succession
- Cricoid pressure is applied when drugs are administered and pressure is increased as unconsciousness is induced
- The facemask is held over the patent airway, but no bag mask ventilation is performed
- Neuromuscular blockade is present after fasciculations have passed (suxamethonium) or after 45-60 seconds have passed (rocuronium)
- Laryngoscopy is performed and the vocal cords are visualised
- Confirmation of correct placement of endotracheal tube in the trachea should be performed using end tidal CO2 detection devices
- Confirmation of correct depth of ETT insertion should be confirmed by chest auscultation and the formula (age/2) + 12cm
