Predictors of difficult intubation in pediatric patients

Certain anatomical features and trauma patterns can predict difficult intubation in pediatric patients and will influence laryngoscope choice.

  • Congenital craniofacial abnormalities
  • Congenital cervical spine instability
  • Obesity
  • Facial burns, inhalation injury and airway edema
  • Facial trauma
  • Suspected cervical spine injury
  • Foreign body, blood or vomitus in the airway
  • External airway compression from expanding hematoma
