Hemodynamic Response to Shock

In compensated shock, BP and cardiac output are maintained in the normal range by:

  • Increasing the heart rate
  • Increasing myocardial contractility
  • Increasing systemic vascular resistance

In addition, blood flow is directed mainly to vital organs such as brain, heart, liver while blood flow is diverted away from skin, muscles
