Liver & Spleen Blunt Injury

Non-operative management (NOM) of blunt liver/spleen injury is successful in over 90% of children

Documented benefits of NOM include:

  • fewer blood product transfusions
  • shorter length of hospital stay
  • reduced hospital costs
  • preserved host defense (spleen)

Operative management is necessary for persistent blood loss, hemodynamic instability, multiple other life-threatening injuries
