  • Characterized by development of symptoms after a psychologically stressful event
  • May affect the patient, family member, or care provider
  • Onset may be immediate or delayed
  • Signs & Symptoms:
    • Psychological & physical sequelae persistently re-experienced
    • Emotionally numbing responses
    • Intrusive responses

Awareness and early diagnosis is critical; Intervention goal - organize & integrate the traumatic experience
