Module 7: Complications of Pediatric Multi-Organ Trauma and Other Injuries (Drowning, Burns)
Children with spinal cord injuries:
Should undergo emergent surgery before completing a primary or secondary survey for associated injuries
May present with hypotension, bradycardia, and hypothermia due to neurogenic shock
Will never have motor weakness because their spinal cord is flexible and elastic
Are easy to diagnose as the injuries can ALWAYS be seen on plain X rays
