Clinical Criteria to Exclude Cervical Spine Injury

  • No complaint of neck pain when asked AND
  • No neck tenderness on palpation AND
  • No h/o loss of consciousness AND
  • No altered mental status (alcohol, drugs, trauma) AND
  • No sensory or motor deficits AND
  • No distracting painful Injury

If ALL of the above are present, cervical spinal injury can be ruled out and hard collar taken off.

Applicable mostly to children over the age of 8 years
