Transport - Potential Problems

  • Movement resulting in dislodgment of endotracheal tube, vascular access lines, or chest tubes - all the lines and tubes must be properly secured prior to transport
  • Noise resulting in inaudibility of pulse oximeter tones or alarms - use attendant headsets connected to monitor and visual alarms when available
  • Impaired gravity drip of fluids - use volumetric pumps when available
  • Failure of equipment such as oxygen supply, batteries for monitors or pumps - regularly maintain equipment and carry back-up supplies
