Advanced Airway Techniques

When an airway or breathing problem is identified an advanced airway may be required.

Advanced airways include endotracheal tubes (ETT) and supraglottic airway devices (SAD). Enlist the help of an appropriately skilled provider.

An ETT placed in the trachea below the vocal cords with the cuff inflated is a definitive airway.

The endotracheal tube maintains airway patency, allows ventilation, and protects the lungs from aspiration of regurgitated gastric contents.
