The needle with introducer (stylet) should be pushed and twisted (screwed) until there is:
- Sudden loss of resistance
- Needle remains upright without support
- Bone marrow can be aspirated
- Fluid infuses easily without subcutaneous infiltration
Do NOT place IO needle into a fractured bone
