Hypothermia can lead to a number of complications:
- Shivering increases basal metabolic oxygen consumption up to 4-fold, leading to hypoxemia
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Coagulation abnormalities
- Impaired renal function (altered drug excretion)
- Poor wound healing
