Blunt abdominal trauma

Diagnostic tools for abdominal trauma

  • Serial physical examinations
  • X-rays (chest and pelvis)
  • Focused Abdominal Sonogram for Trauma (FAST)
  • Computed tomography (CT scan)
  • Diagnostic Peritoneal Lavage (DPL)
  • Serial hemoglobin / hematocrit assessments
  • Urinalysis (for renal system injury)

Do not delay resuscitation measures while awaiting diagnostic tests

Do not delay transfer to an institution capable of addressing injuries
