- The duration and severity of hypoxemia sustained during submersion is the single most important determinant of outcome
- Submersion durations >10 minutes and resuscitation durations >25 minutes are each associated with poor outcome (death or brain damage)
- Sinus rhythm, reactive pupils, and neurologic responses at the scene are associated with good outcomes
